Measures the force required to open a door. Interior door ADA requirement is 5 lbs, exterior door ADA requirement is 8.5 lbs.
To use, walk to the push side of the door. Using the gauge, push open the door and check the read out. Changing the opening force requires adjustment of the closer spring. When a door is opened the internal spring expands creating resistance. This resistance is what the gauge is measuring. Reducing tension on the spring will reduce the opening force required to open the door.
