February Southern Lock Anniversaries

For the month of February, we have four employees celebrating the anniversary of their start date at Southern Lock.

Marking two years at Southern Lock is warehouseman Dave Lavelle. Dave was hired on February 25th of 2008.

Dave doesn't always have blue hair, usually by Thursday the color has worn off.

Down in our Pompano Beach warehouse, Cristian Valles celebrated his fifth anniversary on the 7th of this month.

Pete sent use this picture, but he still hasn't gotten used to the shutter lag on his digital camera.

On February 4th, John La Rocco (inside sales), added another year to his stint at the Lock, bringing the number up to six years.  You know, “John proclaimed, “99 percent of salesmen give the rest a bad name.”

And finally, celebrating his tenth anniversary is commercial sales rep, Earl Ward. Earl began his Southern Lock career on February 21, 2000. On his tenth anniversary, we asked Earl for some advice or words of wisdom. Earl paused for a moment in thought, then spoke, “ 42.7 percent of all statistics are made up on the spot.”

• Congratulations to all of our February Anniversary employees for their dedication and years of service to Southern Lock.
Sales Training Continues
Last week our inside sales team had a class on Mul-T-Lock, covering all aspects of this patented interactive Key Control System. They are sitting by their phones, ready for any questions any customers may have about becoming an authorized MUL-T-LOCK dealer or utilizing Southern Lock’s Mul-T-Lock key control system.

Last month’s training included the Ilco Transponder keys and key machines to coincide with our February Automotive Key Blank Sale.

NCLA Conference in Charlotte

The North Carolina Locksmith Association’s Regional Security Trade Show was held in Charlotte on
February 13th, and Southern Lock was amply represented by a large crew consisting of Ed, Marvin, Jonathen, Walt, Sean, Kenny, Patrick and Doug. There was a very successful open house at the Charlotte warehouse on Friday, and the show are Saturday went very well for Southern Lock in spite of the weather. The snow kept away the folks from out of town, but the locals didn’t seem to mind the cold. The boys from Florida - now that was a different matter.

Industry News
Locknetics to Close

Bristol, CT - Locknetics, a Bristol manufacturing company, is closing by the end of this year, putting 110 full-time employees out of work.

"Its related to the fact that we are discontinuing the product lines that are made at that plant, " said Paul Dickard, a spokesman for Ingersoll Rand, Locknetics' parent company. "They're just not part of the product portfolio going forward."

Locknetics makes electronic locks, primarily for commercial use, and the company will no longer be selling them.

The plant closing will be done in phases, starting this summer and finishing by the end of the year.

Locknetics employees learned Jan. 20 that the factory would close.

Factory workers will get outplacement career counseling, and if they stay as long as the company wants, they'll receive a severance package. Dickard would not discuss the severance package or the profitability of the Bristol factory. (The Bristol Press)

The Raymond James Gasparilla Festival of the Arts celebrates its 40th year on March 6 and 7, 2010 at the Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park in beautiful downtown Tampa.
Gasparilla Logo

With some of the country’s most accomplished artists and rising stars vying for the $15,000 Raymond James Best of Show Award and an additional $60,000 in prize money, a showcase featuring the works of local young artists, a weekend full of live entertainment, and a children’s art activity area, it’s no wonder the festival is widely recognized as one of the top-rated outdoor fine art and fine craft shows in the country.

And why is this listed in the Southern Lock newsletter? Its because our own Bill Underwood is one of those artists who will be displaying his black & white photographs at this year’s event. Bring a check book, they’re all for sale.
